Earlier today the newly appointed Pope Francis addressed the entire College of Cardinals, in the first of a series of formal events to really accept the former Argentinean Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio's new position and name. He asked the church to "not cede to the bitterness and pessimism that the devil offers us every day." Instead, it must "find new ways to spread the word of God to every corner of the world." Though it was clearly a rousing speech, the media is mainly only paying attention to one thing: Pope Francis straight up stumbled while standing from his throne.
The speech was grand and well received. He apparently had a smile on his face during the whole address. Here are some highlights of Pope Francis' speech:
"Maybe half of us are in old age, which I consider to be the seat of wisdom. We've walked the path of life."
"Let's give this wisdom to the young, (we are like) good wine that improves with age. (Quoting his favorite German poet) Age is a time for tranquility and prayer. Let's pass that on."
After his speech, Pope Francis greeted all of the Cardinals one by one, keeping a smile on his face the whole time.
This Sunday, the newly appointed pope will address and bless a crowd in St. Peter's Square. Tuesday is his official installation mass, which will have numerous global leaders in attendance including the United States Vice President Joe Biden.
