Apparently there still are some harmless pranks that can be funny. One of the oldest pranks in the book is getting someone to read out loud a dirty name without them realizing it. Fans of "The Simpsons" may recognize this as a classic Bart Simpson move. If you can get a news person to read the name out loud on live television, well then you hit the jackpot. Someone was able to get Los Angeles meteorologist Henry DiCarlo of KTLA 5 to give a birthday shout out to "Hugh Janus." This is when the hilarity ensued.
I have to give DiCarlo and his colleagues at the LA news station credit as they all showed a good sense of humor. Not all news reporters and weathermen would have been as pleased to know they just got pranked or "Punk'd." However, after DiCarlo gave his shout outs Monday morning and wished a happy tenth birthday to "Hugh Janus," DiCarlo's news anchor colleague Chris Schauble immediately started cracking up at the sound of the name.
At first DiCarlo didn't realize what was so funny until Schauble explained that it was one of those prank names. If you listen closely it sounds like Schauble's female co-anchor is asking him "what?" in reference to his laughter. She too didn't realize what was so funny.
It didn't take long; however, for Schauble's colleagues to pick up on the joke. It really does make the video even funnier once DiCarlo realizes what happened and he gives credit to a prank well done.
DiCarlo and his morning show partners have a good sense of humor, but he did give out a warning that he hopes no one actually does have that name and they are all laughing at him. DiCarlo said,"Hopefully there's not a ten year old really with that name out there."
