Miranda Lambert Gets PETA Backlash for Fur Coat Instagram Photo, Christmas Gift

Miranda Lambert is getting backlash from PETA for posting a picture of herself wearing one of two fur coats given to her as Christmas gifts by her grandmother, Wanda Coker. She also posted a close-up of a coat's lining and embroidery. It seems since the 32-year-old Texas-born crooner is known for her work with rescue dogs, the animal activist group was surprised at what they deem an insensitive and hypocritical act.

Along with the Instagram photo of her wearing a full length furry garment, the Platinum Grammy winner posted the following caption alongside the photo, "I'm so fancy...You already know my Nonny gave me two of her fur coats! I definitely know where I got my love for DIAMONDS, FUR and WHISKEY!" In response to the "Automatic" singer, PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Ling told ET, "We had higher hopes. Since Miranda rescues dogs, we always thought she could see that whether fur comes from a mink, a fox, or a dog or a cat in China, the source is always a gentle animal who did not want to die."

Other activists chimed in against the "Mama's Broken Heart" vocalist with comments including "f*ck fur" and "shame on you." One also stated: "I'm really surprised that you would promote such a cruel industry. I thought you were an animal lover but obviously I was wrong."

However, some of the Academy of Country Music winner's fans came to her defense by complimenting how good she looked in the controversial apparel and noting that it was an old family heirloom. Another claimed, "Love it...ppl now at days get offended over everything....so annoying...don't let anyone steal your sunshine or put you down...you didn't buy it & you got it from your grandma and you look fancy & beautiful...Do & wear whatever makes you happy."

Lambert, who recently acted in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, has yet to comment on the situation. Coincidentally this was her first Christmas without ex-husband Blake Shelton, who spent the holiday in Oklahoma with current girlfriend Gwen Stefani. Ironically, The Voice judge took the No Doubt songstress to a store he used to frequent with Lambert.
