Tom Cruise's Girlfriend Once Cher? Un"Believe"able Pair Dated, Participated in Some 'Risky Business' Back in the '80's

"Flashback Friday" Dating Trivia: Cher was once Tom Cruise's girlfriend when the unlikely pair dated back in the '80's. The "Believe" singer and the A-list actor participated in some "risky business" of their own believe it or not!

Snakkle.com recently compiled a list of long-forgotten odd couple romances and this flashback news resurfaced today.

According to the New York Post, the "If I Could Turn Back Time" singer had a brief romance with a 16-years-younger Cruise at the start of his acting career. "Cougar" Cher was 39 at the time and admitted that she was "smitten" with the then 23-year-old. It's said they met at a White House event in the mid-eighties after Tom Cruise's hit 1983 film "Risky Business" but before "The Color of Money" in 1986.

Cher must have been turned on by Tom's "Old Time Rock and Roll" performance in the movie...or maybe it was his Scientology beliefs?

Apparently Tom Cruise isn't the only Scientologist romantically linked with Cher, notes Fox news, as her former husband Sonny Bono was also a Scientologist.

In 2008, Cher, now 66, confessed to both Oprah and David Letterman that she and Tom Cruise dated:

"It was a long, long time ago and neither one of us ever talked about it and I don't know why. When we were together he was such a private person. He always has been until lately. He didn't mention it and I didn't mention it. I loved him though, he was amazing."

Don't worry "TomKat" fans...the relationship between Cher & Cruise existed was way before Tom met his future ex-wife Katie Holmes, (and even before Holmes became "Joey Potter" on Dawson's Creek) so the legendary singer cannot be held responsible for TomKat's divorce in 2012.

Cher proved that she was "strong enough" to live without Cruise by moving on with multiple men (mostly younger than year) throughout the late '80s, 90's and 2000's like Tommy Lee, Eric Clapton, and RIchie Sambora to just name a few.

We can look forward to hearing Cher's 26th studio record this September. The "Burlesque" star has sold more than 100 million solo albums worldwide over the course of her near-50-year career and you haven't seen the last of her just yet...
