Jack Greene Dies: Songs to Be Remembered, Watch 'Statue Of a Fool' Video, Country Singer Found Dead in Sleep

Legendary country singer Jack Greene died in his sleep on Thursday, March 14, 2013. At age 83, the singer suffered from some complications related to Alzheimer's disease and was found dead in his Nashville home.

Greene will be remembered for his top hit "There Goes My Everything" which was No. 1 on the chart for the whole year of 1966. "The Last Letter", "Ever Since My Baby Went Away" and "Statue of a Fool" are among the list of songs that have captured the hearts of Americans.

In 1967, he garnered numerous awards at the very first Country Music Association Awards. He took him the title for Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Single of the Year.

According to Reuters, "Greene topped the U.S. country song charts nine times and the album chart twice."

Many musicians and fans have expressed their condolences on Twitter.

Blake Shelton, one of the current top country artists, wrote, "Very sad to hear about the passing of Jack Green. He and I performed his song "Statue of a Fool" at the Opry years ago.. True hero."

Buddy Jewell shared on his Facebook page, "Goodbye to my friend Jack Greene. Radio may only play your music for a day to honor you but I will always remember your kindness and incredible talent."

"Sad to hear of Jack Greene's passing. He was a legend and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and all that knew him." tweeted Rodney Atkins.

"For all the memories I have of Jack Greene. From Ernest Tubb to the @opry RIP my good friend! #Opry #countrymusic" wrote Little Jimmy Dickens.
