If anyone understands what Daisy Ridley is going through as the star of a mega franchise, it's actress Kristen Stewart. Stewart, who shot to fame as Bella in the hugely popular Twilight series, offers up some advice for the newest Star Wars star in a new interview.
Stewart spoke to The Hollywood Reporter's "Awards Chatter" podcast about her experience so far in Hollywood, dishing on what served as her inspiration for her role in Clouds of Sils Maria, which the star is being nominated for left and right.
Stewart, who plays an assistant to a movie star in a celebrity-obsessed world, won a Cesar Award back in February for the role. The Cesar is the French equivalent to the Academy Awards, and Stewart was the first American actress ever to receive the award.
So far, the 25-year-old actress has been named Best Supporting Actress by the New York Film Critics Circle (among others) earlier this month, which has led some Oscar pundits to predict a nomination at the 2016 Academy Awards might be in Stewart's future. In the new podcast, Stewart reflects on her career so far, with Twilight, of course, being a huge part of that.
"I did Twilight when I was 17, it came out when I was 18, and my life was never even remotely the same," says the star, calling the aftereffects of the Twilight saga a "huge lifestyle shift."
Overall, though, she says she doesn't regret anything because a lot of good came with the bad, saying, "A whole lot of other baggage - really heavy and also really cool baggage - came along with it."
So what advice can she offer Star Wars newcomer Daisy Ridley? "It's the small things, really. Focus on the fact that you're stoked, 'cause you're doing the work that you want to do," Stewart advises.
She further says, "It's literally mainly just like about focusing on what makes you happy. And if losing your anonymity or whatever doesn't make you happy, then focus on something else."
