Idris Elba has risen to superstardom in the past couple of years, nearly a decade after first coming into prominence with HBO's cult show The Wire: these days, he stars in Luther, is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a perpetual James Bond candidate ... and Queen Elizabeth II will honor him with by making him an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2016, alongside Selma actor David Oyelowo!

According to The Daily Mail, Queen Elizabeth's traditional list of New Year's Honors has just been released and the two actors made the mark in a pretty exciting time.

"Awards and honors come in all shapes and sizes and all as significant as the other. But this is beyond special as it comes from Queen and country, and I couldn't be more proud for receiving this right now," said the Thor actor. "What a year. On me head, son!"

In early December, the 43-year-old actor was nominated for two Golden Globes: one as Best Actor in a Limited Series for Luther and the other as Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film Beasts of No Nation, besides two SAG nods for the same roles as well as for being part of Nation's cast.

He was also involved in this year's box office smash Avengers: Age of Ultron, reprising his role as Heimdall.

While the OBE doesn't exactly make the (ridiculously handsome) actor a knight just yet, it does put him one step ahead and makes him share the same honor with other British actors who have turned into Hollywood superstars, including most recently The Theory of Everything Oscar winner Eddie RedmayneBenedict Cumberbatch was also honored by the Queen recently, but he received a higher ranking title, the Commander of the British Empire (CBE).

People Magazine reports that others to be receiving honors from the Queen include one of her favorite designers, Stewart Parvin, as well as 13-year-old Jonjo Heuerman, who raised £250,000 for Cancer Research UK.
