Season 6 of The Walking Dead will return on Sunday, February 14, but the midseason trailer has been released, and it previews the debut of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan. There are spoilers below, so be warned!
Before we move on any further, let's take a look at the trailer:
It's not particularly long, but there's a lot to unpack there. For starters, we once again see the first mention of Negan's name when his underlings say that our survivors' property now belongs to him.
Next, we hear Rick (Andrew Lincoln) say that he thought life behind the walls of Alexandria was attainable, but now he knows he was wrong. We see this over footage of Rick, Carl (Chandler Riggs), Michonne (Danai Gurira), and Jessie's (Alexandra Breckenridge) family moving through the horde of zombies that had broken through the walls and invaded the safe zone.
But perhaps the most important piece of footage in the trailer is the image of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) screaming and crying. Of course, this could be in response to almost anything in a world where people are horrifically gutted by zombies in almost every episode, but let's go out on a limb and assume her wailing is in response to THAT moment that we all think is coming.
Fans have been waiting for Negan's arrival in part because they want to see what is arguably the most famous scene from the comic books. Negan makes his debut in the 100th issue in a big way when he bashes Glenn's (Steven Yeun) brains in with a barbed wire baseball bat called Lucille.
When it appeared that Glenn had died in an earlier Season 6 episode, fans were understandably confused and frustrated. But now it seems that we are back on track for poor Glenn to meet his fate when Negan debuts in the Season 6 finale.
