Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out and killing the box office as Disney's Lucasfilm focuses on other projects like that other iconic Harrison Ford-led franchise. In the latest news, the company has officially confirmed Indiana Jones 5, though it remains unclear whether star archaeologist Indy will be played by Ford or someone like Chris Pratt.
After months of speculation on whether Lucasfilm would be bringing back Indy for a new adventure, Disney CEO Bob Iger recently appeared on a video interview with Bloomberg News about the company's future projects, confirming that the classic Ford character would be coming back to the big screen.
For now, it's only clear that the beloved archaeologist will get his own film once more, though it's hard to tell whether it will also mean a full comeback of Ford in the role, months after Pratt, who's turned into one of Hollywood's biggest stars after box office smashes Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic Park, was rumored to be in talks to play Indy.
There are different routes the new film could take: Ford could reprise the role in a direct sequel as the sole lead; he could come back for a smaller yet vital role, the way his Han Solo did in Force Awakens ... or there could be a reboot, without the presence of the 73-year-old actor at all.
In this age of remakes and reboots, Ford alone has been officially tapped to play two of his most iconic roles once more: Han in Episode VII and Rick Deckard in an upcoming Blade Runner sequel that will also star Ryan Gosling.
According to Yahoo! News, Steven Spielberg, who directed the first four Indy movies, has expressed interest in coming back for a fifth installment starring Ford, joking that he would "hope to make it before Harrison Ford is 80 and I get much older."
