After winning hearts and applause from her performances as a wife of a Maratha warrior in Bajirao Mastani, Priyanka Chopra is all set to appear in Prakash Jha's Jai Gangaajal. However, the film is facing a lot of trouble from the Indian Censor Board.

The Quantico star's next release has ran into problems at the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification). After seeing the final edited version of the film, the censor board has granted the crime thriller an Adult certificate with minimal cuts but Jha is apparently not happy with the Adult certificate.

According to Bollywood Hungama, after Jha was told that his film will get an Adult certification from the censor board, he went to meet the deciding members and asked for a UA certificate with the cuts. According to the director, if the film will get an Adult certificate then there are chances that the film will lose a lot of its targeted audience.

A source close to the director revealed that Jha was told by the CBFC to clean out his soundtrack and scenes depicting physical and verbal violence if he wants a UA certification from the board.

"On Tuesday, Prakash Jha made the changes suggested by the censor board and went home with a 'UA' in place of an 'A' certificate. This will be the CBFC's work procedure in future. If producers aim at a specific censor certification they may edit the film voluntarily according to the censorial guidelines, or be willing to take an 'A' certificate if the content is found to be too explicit," source further added.

Jha's earlier 2003 film, Gangaajal starred Ajay Devgan and Gracy Singh in the lead roles. The film showed the police officers throwing the acid in the eyes of the criminals and is famous for depicting violence in the rural India. So, when Jha announced that he is making a film related to Gangaajal, many eyebrows were raised as the critics and media were sure that Jha will show more gore scenes in it.

Jai Gangaajal is two months from the release but Jha wanted an early censor certification as he intended to send the film for the Nationals Awards. In the latest development, the director has decided to take the film to the Tribunal where he can appeal against the cuts by the censor board.

The film is scheduled to release on March 4, 2016.
