Vampire Weekend has shared a pair of studio cuts from their highly anticipated new album, "Modern Vampires of the City," which is set to release on May 7.

According to Billboard, on Monday (Mar. 18), the New York-based band released two new tracks "Diane Young" and "Step" on their website, which will both be included on the band's forthcoming third album. Vampire Weekend also recently played some of its new songs during a South By Southwest Music Festival-ending show at Stubb's BBQ on Saturday night, reports USA Today.

"Diane Young" singer Ezra Koenig "leads the charge on a charismatic rock song that features crazed breakdowns and unexpected soul from the frontman," explains Billboard.

Rolling Stone also notes that "Diane Young" is a "driving rock track with grungy guitars that devolve into electronic deluges over the course of its quick run."

The "A-Punk" singers other new single "Step" is a more "laid-back cut, however, "recalling the harpsichord parts found on the band's 2007 song "M79," states Billboard. It also comes with a lyric video, allowing fans to catch a couple lyrical nods to fellow indie rockers Modest Mouse.

The track features Koenig "cooing over subtle synths that stretch and twinkle while its steady drumbeat finds a comforting groove," adds Rolling Stone.

In addition, both new tracks also feature some unexpected bass-heavy vocal effects.

Their recent performance during the SXSW tour was the band's first U.S. gig in a while, notes USA Today. They did, however, play some shows in Australia and Japan recently. "We always enjoy coming down to Austin," Batmanglij said. "We always have a good night."

And the timing was right, Koenig added "We kind of felt like it was close to when the album was coming out and we hadn't been here in a long time. We had the shocking realization recently that we hadn't been here (to SXSW) in five years," he said.

"I can barely believe we have been a band for five years, let alone that we haven't been to South By for five years," Koenig continued. "We didn't want to come for too long (and) didn't want to get burned out by South By. We liked the idea of coming and just doing one show and then other opportunities came up around it."

Vampire Weekend's last album, 2010's "Contra," debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart and has sold 541,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Last October, the band performed another new song, "Unbelievers," during a Halloween-themed appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," according to Billboard.

What do you think of "Diane Young," and "Step?" If you're a fan of the band's new sound, be sure to keep an ear out for the "Modern Vampires of the City" LP to drop in May.
