The Syfy Channel has renewed The Expanse for Season 2. The sci-fi drama starring Thomas Jane (Joe Miller) and Chad Coleman (Col. Frederick Lucius Johnson) has been renewed for another a 13-episode run, which is slated to air in early 2017.
According to the plot synopsis from TV Line, The Expanse is set 200 years in the future. The sc-fi drama follows the mysterious case of a missing young woman. The unsolved case brings together a hardened and fedora-wearing detective (Jane) and a rogue ship's captain (Strait). Reluctantly working together, the duo find themselves in a race across the solar system, which will expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.
Network President Dave Howe states, "The Expanse is firing on all cylinders creatively, building a passionate fan base among viewers and critics alike, and delivering on Syfy's promise of smart, provocative science fiction entertainment. We can't wait to see where the story takes us in Season 2."
In an interview with Blastr, Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham (who form the pen name James S.A. Corey) discuss adapting their nine book series with with Iron Man scribes Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby.
Abraham reveals, "The biggest surprise for me is the way that the storytelling toolbox for writing and television is totally different but also functionally really similar. Just for one example, people always talk about how in TV you can't get into a character's head the way you can in prose, and in a way that's true. You can't just flat out say what the character is thinking. But it turns out you can totally say what a character is feeling, because you have the musical score. Those kind of parallels are really cool. The biggest challenge for me has been the amount of time I've spent away from home and family. And the easiest thing? I don't know that. The best thing has been watching a bunch of smart, dedicated people put vast skill sets I don't have into making something cool. It's been a privilege and a joy to watch that happen."
The Expanse airs on the Syfy Channel Tuesdays at 10pm.
