Major news network CNN made their own headlines recently with their coverage of the Steubenville High School rape case involving two star high school football players in Ohio. CNN decided to paint the rapists put on trial in a sympathetic light, which obviously enraged many people. The report by CNN was an obvious blunder, not unlike one you would find by news satire site The Onion. It turns out The Onion actually created a satire based news report almost two years ago on their show "SportsDome" that looks and feels eerily similar to the way CNN handled the Stuebenville news.

CNN's coverage of the Steubenville rape case is unfortunately a blunder that made it seem like the anchors felt sympathy towards the guilty athletes. The case involves two Stuebenville High School football players who were found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl. The girl obviously should be considered the victim here, but CNN's report didn't come off that way to viewers.

The major issue here is when a news reporters and anchors on a major news organization such as CNN seem to take sides. It's an even bigger issue when they show sympathy towards the rapists.

Just a few days ago CNN was reporting the breaking news involving the guilty verdict of rape against the two high school football athletes Ma'lik Richmond and Trent Mays. This is when CNN correspondent Poppy Harlow gave an almost sympathetic look at the two athletes who were just found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl. The video of the news report is below.

As a result, a petition was started on Change.org demanding that CNN apologize on-air for sympathizing with the Steubenville rapists.

The ridiculousness of the news report is like something that would come from news satire site The Onion. It turns out it did. About two years ago, The Onion produced a video news satire piece that is very similar to the piece CNN just did a few days ago. You can watch The Onion video below. In the about section, YouTube user "Krister Johnson" claims she was a writer on The Onion's show "SportsDome" and the video aired on Comedy Central back in 2011.
