According to ESPN sports columnist Scott Burnside, "Still hard to get your head around the fact that the Rangers could miss the playoffs, but after being shut out by Pittsburgh on Saturday for their third straight loss, it's an image that's getting harder to ignore."

The Devils snag the no 2 spot in the Eastern Atlantic Conference with a 13-10-6 record. NJ ranks no 12 overall in the NHL out of 30 teams. As Burnside points out, "The Devils are tied with the Leafs in points and, like the Leafs, are trying to dig their heels in before sliding completely out of the playoff picture. The absence of Martin Brodeur and paucity of scoring loom large for the Devils, who have won just four of 15."
