On Tuesday, President Barack Obama put forth an executive action for a stricter stance on gun control in the United States. While referencing the Sandy Hook Shooting from back in 2012, the President began to cry. With that, several right-wingers and gun supporters have slammed the POTUS, specifically one from the National Rifle Association (NRA).
In a piece that appeared on the NRA's site, the executive director of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, Chris W. Cox, claimed that the President's "condescending" lecture on gun control was "completely devoid of fact," and further stated that Americans do not need anymore emotional messages.
Cox also took issue with the belief that a more difficult gun regulation in America would lead to fewer deaths as a result of firearms.
"But the fact is that President Obama's proposals would not have prevented any of the horrific events he mentioned. The timing of this announcement, in the eight and final year of his presidency, demonstrates not only political exploitation but a fundamental lack of seriousness."
During the President's speech, he claims to "reject" the thinking that more in-depth background checks would not stop a massacre. While he seems to understand that it won't stop every act of terror or violence in the United States, he's hopeful that with the new laws, "maybe we could try to stop one act of evil, one act of violence," according to the New York Times.
It should be noted that, per the Times piece, President Obama's executive actions are merely "guidance" for agencies, and not necessarily, as they put it, "binding regulations."
