In another move for a series that just keeps on coming, actor Dwayne Johnson just announced his production company with Dany Garcia, Seven Bucks Productions, has landed a script deal with Fox for a Fast and Furious-inspired TV show.
Johnson posted the news on Instagram Tuesday to announce the new show. His production company has partnered with Imperative Entertainment on the project. The show, which is currently titled Boost Unit, has Jonny Umansky and Zach Hyatt set to pen the script for the show.
Boost Unit is being described as "a high-octane, action-packed hour that follows the newest recruit of the LAPD's Auto Theft Task Force, a notorious getaway driver with a hidden past."
"We're bringing to life the high stakes street pursuits and grueling work of this very specialized elite task force and we're excited to partner with Imperative Entertainment to combine an epic mix of gripping action and sophisticated storytelling," Johnson said in a statement.
Johnson says in his Instagram post (see below) that his work on the Fast and Furious series is part of his desire to do the "dope" new show, saying it will "capture that kind of intense and entertaining action based off of the real life individuals who make up one of the most bad ass (and underground street units of the #LAPD."
Boost Unit is yet another show in Johnson's growing repertoire. He is starring in and executive producing HBO's Ballers as well as TNT's The Hero, Wake Up Call and Rock the Troops, which airs on Spike.
His production company is also producing the Baywatch film, which is a rebooted version of the classic TV show. Johnson is also set to star in that film, with model-turned-actress Kelly Rohrbach set to take on Pamela Anderson's iconic role.
No word yet on when viewers can expect Boost Unit to air.
