It's a sad day for Twitter users who enjoy keeping their snarky opinions at 140 characters. It's being reported that the social media giant is debating whether to expand the limit of tweets to 10,000 characters.
Which would undoubtedly mean a whole lot less thought that goes into our tweets. (Not that a lot of thought usually goes into them, that is.)
Despite the news, and possible excitement from the company side, Twitter users don't appear to be too thrilled about the possible character extension:
@majornelson @twitter This isnt Facebook. If you cant say what you need with 140 characters, it doesnt need to be said. #Twitter10k

Keep it 140, I don't wanna be reading essays on here. Nobody does #Twitter10k — #drmayorsomai (@drmayorsomai) January 6, 2016
Recode reports that the company is toying with the idea of extending their character limit by the end of their first 2016-quarter.
Now, for those of you thinking that once you log onto Twitter you'll be inundated with 10k-long tweets, think again. The company is actually going to keep the same system where you log on and find the tweets in their 140 character state. You'll then have the option to click to expand the tweet to discover the 10,000 characters, or however many the user places.
#Twitter10k is an awful idea. Wasn't whole idea of 140 characters that you'd post something succinct & to the point meaning no rambling? — Steve Toogood (@Sjp_Toogood) January 6, 2016
twitter decides to increase the amount of limits to 10k but doesn't add an edit button #twitter10k — ㅤ (@Mxitha) January 6, 2016
So, do we love or hate this idea, folks? As one user above mentions, we still won't be able to edit tweets.
But maybe one day?
