While we celebrated a huge step in equal rights with the recent Supreme Court ruling for marriage equality, gay rights had a long battle to get to this point. One story is about to have a big-screen adaptation in theaters in the form of Freeheld starring Julianne Moore and Ellen Page as a lesbian couple. Diagnosed with breast cancer, Detective Laurel Hester (Moore) fought for her pension to be left to her domestic partner (Page) if she died. Steve Carrell and Michael Shannon also star.
