In a society where beauty typically means being light-skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes, one must question: What happened to beauty being skin deep? In her directorial debut, LisaRaye McCoy tackles the issue of discrimination and prejudice due to skin color within the black community head on in the film "Skinned." The controversial film journeys through the life of a woman named Jolie who has battled with issues of being dark-skinned since childhood. To combat her self-esteem issues she turns to skin bleaching, as she believes that being of a lighter skin complexion equates to beauty, but later in life her hasty decisions become her biggest regret.
