Long before the VMA performance seen around the world, Miley Cyrus gained a bit of controversy for the music video for her first "Bangerz" single "We Can't Stop." Recording artist M.I.A. announced on her Twitter account that the Grammy Awards’ Bob Marley Tribute stage design was a rip off of her stage set. Her tweet has since been deleted, but it read, “IM KEEPING A STEAL LOG THIS YEAR HERE THE ONE FOR JAN / FEB > MIA $500 > GRAMMYS $5000000.” It also included a link to her Tumblr site, which had a post comparing the two performances in screengrabs and the message: "MY IDEAS CAME FROM MY LIFE.
