The first of many movies in the Star Wars Anthology standalone, spinoff projects, Rogue One from director Gareth Edwards, has a release date set for December 16, 2016 (about a year after 2015's The Force Awakens from director J.J. Abrams), but this week's D23 Expo provided fans some amazing details on the cast and plot of this new film. In a shareholders call this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed some huge news concerning the next two chapters of the Star Wars universe. We learned that the first spin-off, standalone movie project in the Lucasfilm franchise officially has a name and a star! Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones will star in director Gareth Edwards' Star Wars: Rogue One. Iger also announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII, the sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2015 blockbuster The Force Awakens, would officially be written and directed by Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) and would hit theaters on May 26, 2017.
