Lauryn Hill has been sentenced for tax evasion. While Sony swept in at the last minute to provide Hill with the money to pay her fines (and get some new music from Hill out of the deal), Hill will still serve three months for failing to pay taxes on $1.8M she received from 2005 to 2007. The lenient sentence is thanks, in part, to letters written to the judge. According to a note on Hill's Facebook, Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys wrote the judge in Hill's case, as well as 28 others.
