Captain America: Civil War is the most anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe release of 2016. It's being billed as the closest thing to an Avengers movie and the film introduces Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Now, months before the release, the film's directors, the Russo brothers, dish on what to expect from this new version of Spidey.

Over the past 15 years, audiences have seen five different portrayals of superhero Peter Parker with two different actors, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, and it could be argued that the character's been done a little too much in that period. So how is the MCU planning to make it work this time around?

Speaking to Comic Book and being careful not to spoil anything ahead of the big superhero release, the director brothers of Captain America: Winter Soldier revealed that they've taken a very "personal approach" when dealing with Manhattan's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

"We had thought back to the things that excited us about him as a character when we were younger, and one of the most important components of that was that he's a high schooler burdened with incredible powers and responsibility," said Joe Russo, then explaining the decision to cast an age-appropriate actor to play the role.

"We wanted an energy and charisma from the character, an energy, but also an insecurity that would make him fun to watch in contrast to the confident superheroes."

As Collider reports, part of the search for authenticity when it came to the role was also a realistic portrayal of Peter Parker's life: the directors recount that they thought through what kind of housing would be appropriate in current times for a single-income family of two. Both filmmakers noted that, in today's economy, it was unlikely that that kind of family would be living in such a large New York home.

As far as merchandising is concerned, the directors refused to share on whether Spidey would be appearing in Civil War toys in the coming months.
