Zelda Williams, the daughter of legendary comedian Robin Williams, recently made her directorial début, staying behind the cameras on JoJo's latest video, "Save My Soul." In watching, crowds will recognize the young star's touching tribute to her late father's lifelong struggles.
Williams and JoJo have actually been friends for about a decade, and the two share a bond well beyond friendship. They've both witnessed people close to them, particularly their fathers, struggle with addiction for years.
According to Entertainment Tonight, JoJo took to Instagram to talk about her new clip, which was directed by Williams during the first time ever she's gotten behind the camera. In the handwritten post, the 25-year-old singer reveals that the video was shot about a month before her father, Joel Levesque, ultimately lost his long-running battle with addiction.
The song had been a passion project for JoJo for a while, as she had watched her father's struggles for many years. At his death, she said she wasn't mad at him, instead calling him her "greatest heartbreak" and saying the song now takes an even more personal meaning to her.

Williams took to her Tumblr to share what the experience had been like for her, saying that the two friends had wanted to collaborate for a while and they hadn't gotten the chance until now.
"That couch looks like an island in the middle of the desert for a reason, because I know how isolating it can be to try to express yourself," Williams wrote in the long post, via Billboard. "Showing emotions in a world that seems averse to them can be scary and more often than not it feels as though you're the only person on the planet going thru it!"
Williams also shared that, in the making of the video, she decided to put a therapist's couch "in the middle of Joshua Tree" and have their friends sit on it, to give emotional depth to the clip.
