MStars News has learned that the taxi driver who allegedly refused to pick up Today's Al Roker has been fined. According to AOL, the taxi driver, who has been identified as Mahabur Rahman, pleaded guilty to "violation of a service refusal" and is now suffering the consequences and has to pay a $500 fine.
The drama all started back in November 2015 when Roker claimed that he wasn't picked up by the taxi because of his race. Roker previously tweeted that he was filing a complaint. He wrote: "Filed a complaint today after getting passed up again by a NYC Yellow cab. Cabbie picked up a white guy a block away. Wonder why Uber wins?"
In more tweets, Roker said: "This happens to folks of color every day. And while most cabbies do their job, there are those ignorant, racist ones who hurt the others." He added, "What really hurts, my 13 yr. old boy was with me and asked why the cabbie passed us. I said, 'Nick, ignorant people make dumb choices.''
Rahman claimed that he didn't see Roker waiting for a cab. Roker was requesting a cab at the time to take his sick 13-year-old son to a doctor's appointment. Roker tweeted to one of his followers that the taxi driver did see him, and decided to drive away.
@mariamadelyn_ he pulled up, I reached for the door, took off and went for the guy a block away. He saw me and took off for another fare

@WxmanFranz @StormForce_1 Not a laughing matter. Trying to get a sick kid to the dr. and you get passed, you go blind with rage. Not funny — Al Roker (@alroker) November 22, 2015
This wasn't the first time Rahman refused to pick up a person looking to ride a cab. According to the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission, Rahman did the same thing back in May of 2015 and had to pay a $200 fine during that time.
Hopefully he never pulls this stunt again after being in trouble twice within the same years. Rahman hung up the phone earlier this week when media outlets tried to call for a statement.
Roker was notified that Rahman had to pay a fine, but the Today host has remained silent on the matter since winning his case.
