Mayer is back on tour! The announcement of John Mayer's 2013 tour dates comes only days after his alleged split with ex-girlfriend Katy Perry.
The "Gravity" singer, who was forced to take 10 months off to treat a throat condition, is finally better and ready to refocus on singing and promoting his 2012 album, "Born and Raised," reveals E! News.
The 2013 tour, kicking off July 6th at Milwaukee's SummerFest, will be his first major concert tour in three years, following his unfortunate & necessary vocal hiatus, Billboard reports. Nearly all of Mayer's concerts this summer season will be opened by American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, who has strummed his way to the top of the charts with his hit single "Home."
Mayer will visit over 40 cities in four countries during the July-October months, including dates at Colorado's famed Red Rocks (July 16) and the Hollywood Bowl (Oct. 5), as well as festival stops at Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina (Sept. 17), and Rock in Rio in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil (Sept. 21).
The talented vocalist is happy to have finally completed the road to recovery and excited to hit a more familiar and enjoyable road while touring this summer (something John feared he'd never be able to do again).
Billboard reports on John's full recovery in their cover story this week:
"No one wants to cut into a singer's throat-that's the last resort." Michael McDonald, longtime manager of John Mayer, is explaining the singer/songwriter's decision to put his precious vocal cords under the scalpel. It was early fall in 2011, and Mayer had just been diagnosed with a severe tissue inflammation on his vocal cords known as a granuloma. Even more crushingly, he'd received the news just after he'd nearly completed what would become his acclaimed fifth solo album, 2012's Born and Raised: Now there was the possibility that he would never be able to record or tour again as a singer.
John Mayer no longer has to "dream with a broken heart," as he is back on tour and hopefully better than ever!
The grateful singer tells the magazine, "The greatest gift I now have in my life is the opportunity to play again, which is also the opportunity to dream again. My dreams were in escrow, but when I found out this thing in my throat had receded, the most exciting thing for me was having a second chance at a new life. My dreams have come true twice. That's really cool."
