Well, it's time for the Oscars again and the highly anticipated list of nominees have been announced. It may come as very little surprise, that there isn't one person of color on the nominee list. As a result, Black celebrities/influentials took to Black Twitter to spring into action with tweets and memes making it known that again, the "Oscars are so White."
In what Entertainment Weekly deemed as the "whitest Oscars since last year," the 2016 Oscar nomination list of 20 contenders for "Best Actor" does not include a single Black actor/actress. To add insult to injury, not one of the impactful African American based films (Creed, Straight Outta Compton, Concussion, Beasts of No Nation) were nominated for Best Picture. There were only 8 nominations submitted for this category that has the potential for a total of 10 nomination slots.

This is the first time since 1997 and 1998 that an all-white slate of actors were announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for two consecutive years. Last year, April Reign started the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite to bring attention to the lack of diversity in the prestigious Oscars awards categories.
This year, the hashtag is being used yet again and joined by the #OscarsStillSoWhite hashtag to serve as a rallying cry for more representation in the Academy. Especially since a nomination can change an actor's career and the potential benefit includes a ticket into your branch of the academy. Black influentials immediately brought attention to the all-white actors featured in the nominee list.
It's actually worse than last year. Best Documentary and Best Original Screenplay. That's it. #OscarsSoWhite — April (@ReignOfApril) January 14, 2016
All white Oscar nominations are another example of the lack of diversity in Hollywood. Like the Rocky Mts. The higher u climb the whiter.

Hollywood has a fraudulent image of progressive and liberal politics and policies. We must take direct action to correct this. Talk is cheap — Reverend Al Sharpton (@TheRevAl) January 14, 2016
I thought for sure #IdrisElba would get a nom for that brilliant performance in #BeastsofNoNation #CaryFukunaga #youngVisionary

Of course, Black Twitter chimed in to laugh in the Academy's face with funny memes that poke fun of the colorless list of nominees. Twitter users pointed out that the entire slate of nominees are white but the Academy filled the racial quota by tapping in a black host, Chris Rock.
