In the first teaser for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Caped Crusader is seen asking the Man of Steel, "Tell me, do you bleed?" The question has given way to several memes and has become a catchphrase for Ben Affleck's version of Bruce Wayne. However, the reason behind the question is still a mystery ... until the first clip from the film was released.
Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder was recently a guest on Conan, where he unveiled a 30-second clip from the movie.
The scene shows that Batman has just crashed the Batmobile (a result of trying to run over his vehicle collision-proof nemesis, as confirmed in a previous TV spot) and is trying to get out of the wreck. Superman (Henry Cavill) then appears to rip the roof off of the car. Batman finally emerges and the two superheroes look at each other in silence before Superman speaks.
"Next time they shine your light in the sky, don't go to it. The Bat is dead. Bury it," he says and before he turns to leave, he tells Batman to "Consider this mercy." Batman isn't very happy with the arrangement (or maybe he's pissed off by the damage on his car. "Tell me, do you bleed?" he asks Superman. His enemy doesn't answer; he throws Batman one last look before flying away.
However, the Dark Knight isn't impressed. "You will," he says as he watches his opponent fly away.
Although it would be amusing to assume that the reason why Batman wants to V Superman is because of a damaged Batmobile, the reason behind the conflict is explained in the film's extended synopsis.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Michael Shannon as General Zod/Doomsday. The film will finally drop into theaters on March 25.
