Henry Cavill's Kryptonian superhero certainly underwent a lot of trauma (and critical backlash) in the 2013 Zack Snyder film Man of Steel. However, this hasn't stopped the English actor from looking forward to playing Clark Kent once again in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, especially when the character has changed so much in the past 3 years.
The Immortals star opened up to Cineplex about playing the DC superhero, explaining that there is more to Superman than meets the eye.
"He's just wonderfully rich and one of those things, for me, that's just enjoyable to play," Cavill said of his character. "There's so far you can go with it; if you really, really delve deep into the character, there's so much you can do. It's just about exploring it within the vehicles and finding what you want to do."
The Man From U.N.C.L.E star also hinted on some personal growth for Kal-El after the catastrophic events in Man of Steel.
"He's going to have some very interesting character development in this one," Cavill said.
There was much to learn after MoS, which wasn't exactly well-received by fans and critics alike. Nevertheless, Cavill insists that BvS will not be looking back in the past.
"There's no intentional move, I don't think, in Batman v Superman to address any issues that people had with Man of Steel," he said. "It's just a continuation of that storyline and they continue to develop that world and introduce new characters."
Although BvS will feature some people we've already seen in Man of Steel, there will be interesting new characters like Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. There have been speculations that Jason Momoa will be making an appearance as Aquaman and Ezra Miller could have a small cameo as Barry Allen/The Flash. The movie's title even hints on the birth of the Justice League, which will have its own two-part film in 2017 and 2019.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
