One might think that comedian Bill Maher has enough in life, but of course, there's something that even he's forever been trying to get but simply cannot. Therefore, it's being reported that a petition has started in order to help the Real Time host get President Barack Obama to appear on his HBO series.
...as a birthday gift.
Oh, and because the President has been seen on nearly every other show on television.
Maher's birthday is this coming Jan. 20––the comedian will be 60 years old––and to celebrate, he's asked President Obama to appear on his HBO series...again.
The comedian ended Friday night's episode of Real Time––his first back since his winter hiatus––noting that it's hard for him to believe that he is going to hit the big 6-0, and further explained that he'd like to make a request of his "wonderful, loyal audience."
Something he admits he's never done before.
"Other shows are always begging the audience every five minutes...I would never ask you to be our unpaid intern and publicity department," Maher said, further admitting that he is "old-school show business." Meaning that he is there for the audience, and not the other way around.
Now, having said that, he did ask for a favor: help get President Barack Obama to appear on Real Time with Bill Maher. And given his argument, it's hard to disagree.
"There is something I want you guys to help me with, and it's this. Before he leaves office, I want to get President Obama on this show." Which was something that earned thunderous applause from the crowd and panel alike.
"Let's just say, our invitation has gotten lost in the mail for seven years. Which would be okay except for the fact that in that time this president has done virtually every other show in the known universe."
And, well, he's right.
