While real-life Democratic and Republican Parties are still trying to find their Presidential candidates, on Netflix, the current President, House of Cards' Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) campaigns towards reelection, with a new Season 4 teaser ahead of its March premiere.
According to Deadline, the new teaser for the fourth season of the award-winning show brings us back to everything Frank has gone through to get where he is, particularly killing Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) and Peter Russo (Corey Stoll) when they started to get in his way. The play on his past is less out there than others, but it still pretty much hits viewers like a train.
On the new teaser, the first shot is of a bouquet of flowers left on subway tracks, reminding us of Zoe's death at the beginning of Season 2. The camera then pans up to a poster of Underwood's bid for the White House (with his slogan "Putting America Back on Track," which very much sounds like a pun on the current campaign), and the train passes. Once again, the Machiavellian politician goes up in one way or another following someone's death.
At the end of the show's third season, it seemed that Underwood could at last get his comeuppance for his past sins. During the campaign, he'd used wife Claire (Robin Wright) to soften his own personality with voters, although she ultimately left him, breaking up one of the biggest power couples in television.
So far, other than the campaign still going, it's unclear what kind of season we'll be getting this time around. According to Collider, many viewers were disappointed at the third season, which was primarily focused on conflicts between Frank and Claire (as well as a Vladimir Putin-like Russian president) instead of the usual snide climbing to the top. Then again, the character can't climb further up now that he's President.
In any case, perhaps the show's fourth season will be its return to form. House of Cards returns to Netflix in the usual format of an entire season on March 4.
