HBO has put a halt to their upcoming TV remake of the late sci-fi author Michael Crichton's cult classic, Westworld. With the pilot being delayed, will the show starring Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, and Jeffry Wright unfortunately miss its 2016 premiere date?
As we previously mentioned, the 1970s western/thriller centered around an amusement park and its guests. A precursor to Jurassic Park, as writer/director, Crichton imagined three worlds - the West World, Medieval World, and Roman World - inhabited by human-like androids. Rebelling against their programming, the robots start to run amok and commence attacking the tourists in the climatic final act.
We also mentioned before, Nolan had teased, "I would say, picture your neurosis. Picture the things that keep you up at night-human behavior, artificial intelligence-any of those things that trouble you, worry you. That is exactly what the show is about. We are hoping to exploit all of those anxieties...We're incredibly excited about it, both on the narrative level and on a cinematic level."
According to Variety, production has temporarily shut down for the upcoming HBO drama. For the next two months, executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy rewrite the final four scripts. Originally scheduled to wrap in November, production is set to take place in March.
HBO released a statement, citing, "As we head into the final phase of production on 'Westworld,' we've made the decision to take a brief hiatus in order to get ahead of the writing,"
Since the shutdown is temporary, a source close to HBO states the cable network is confident that the sci-fi series will certainly make its targeted premiere date.
