In the months after Donald Trump became possibly the most-hated figure by all Latinos in the United States, Hispanic artists have stepped up to spread their own message and promote their culture. That includes Saturday Night Live alums Fred Armisen and Horatio Sanz, who have teamed up with SNL creator Lorne Michaels for a new comedy channel directed at Latinos, Más Mejor.
According to Yahoo! News, the project is centered around being a comedy studio for Latino voices, whether they've already hit the mainstream or are still struggling to the top. In Spanish, the name translates to something like "More Better," which is just about as grammatically incorrect in the language of Cervantes as it is in Shakespeare's.
Broadway Video, the same people who produce SNL as well as Late Night with Seth Meyers, are behind Más Mejor, and they've brought in a lot of Spanish-speaking talent for this new project, working to create online content directed at the community.
"They do a lot of online content and comedy, so they're launching a Latino version of it – some Spanish-speaking and some bilingual content comedy," Armisen told Market Place about Broadway Video. "And Lorne [Michaels] and the company asked me to get involved and I can't wait to do it. I've always been wanting to do Spanish language entertainment [because] my mom's Venezuelan and I've always been fascinated by Latin comedy and Latin TV."
Currently, Armisen's got his hands full of work; he's the star and writer of Emmy-nominated show Portlandia and the bandleader on Meyer's talk show.
Of course, this is hardly the first Latino comedy project to hit the web. Over the past months, Univision-owned Flama has been rising in popularity with its Latino-focused content, including articles like "Spanish Words that Don't Exist in English" and "If Latinos Made Ugly Christmas Sweaters."
Still, the more options there are, the better.
Actually, the more better!
