The CW network airs the highly anticipated Season 3 premiere of The 100. In the first episode of the third season, Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor), Dr. Abigail Griffin (Paige Turco), and Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeropoulos) return to their post-apocalyptic future.

According to the plot synopsis, The 100 follows a group of survivors as they attempt to rebuild Earth after a nuclear holocaust. The freshmen season focused on a group of 100 juvenile delinquents, who were sent down from a surviving space station, trying to live on the ground. The sophomore season brought the survivors into conflict with the new societies that had already emerged. Now, the third season expands the world of the "Grounders" and brings in an artificial intelligence character to the mix.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator Jason Rothenberg describes the time-jump, ""There's relative peace when we start, so the people are able to take a breath, explore, and map the region. They're building a real, functioning civilization, which they haven't had a chance to do since they landed because they've been getting killed every second of every day. Now they can do that. And then the s- hits the fan."

In an interview with Downtown Magazine NYC, composer Tree Adams explains how he typically scores the tracks on the show, "t really depends on the project and on what phase of the project we're in. Some of these projects require a great deal of recording and others can be a bit more "in the box." In other words, using more electronic programming and sound design. For The 100, we record female vocals, battle drums and various featured soloists like duduk, oud, fiddle and cello. This typically involves a few days of writing in the studio and then a couple days of recording."

Season 3 of The 100 premieres Thursday January 21 at 9pm, right after DC's The Legends of Tomorrow.
