Matthew Perry is best known and loved for his role as Chandler Bing in the 90's classic sitcom Friends. He's also been very open about his many struggles with addiction at the peak of the show's fame. Now, close to 12 years after the show ended, the actor confesses that three full seasons of the sitcom are a blur in his memory due to his substance abuse.
Speaking to BBC's Radio 2 last weekend, the 46-year-old actor who broke fans' hearts when announcing he wouldn't be part of the Friends "reunion" coming up next month, revealed that there were bits about his time on the show he didn't remember at all, as things were fuzzy at that time of his life.
"Oh my goodness," he said when asked what had been his least favorite episode of the series. "I think the answer is I don't remember three years of it. So none of those ... somewhere between season 3 and 6."
Perry then added that he had been "out of it" for some of that time.
The four-time Emmy nominee has been very outspoken about his struggles with addiction in the past. Back in 2013, he spoke to People Magazine about his battles with substance abuse, particularly prescription pills and alcohol, and how he's changed his life around since.
These days, Perry is working on his new play, The End of Longing, which he wrote and stars in. The play will premiere in London in February, so rehearsals prevented him from meeting the rest of the gang for next month's tribute to TV director James Burrows; still, he's set to make an appearance on the special.
While he won't be appearing live with Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and TV wife Courteney Cox on the special, The Independent reports that the actor has hinted an actual reunion could happen in the future, with the cast reprising their iconic roles. Apparently, the six most famous Central Perk patrons have "talked about it a little bit over dinner" in the past -- but let's not get excited until we finally hear something official!
