After years of messy twists, cheating and bouts of jealousy, the recent mid-season finale of Scandal saw Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) finally calling it quits with President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn). Now, as the rest of Season 5 approaches next month, a new promo hints a new spoiler. After leaving Team Fitz seemingly forever, Liv's joining Team Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) again!
Weeks after Foley had fooled the press by saying he didn't think his character, Jake, would go back easily to Olivia, ABC has released a new teaser for the rest of the season, and one thing's pretty clear – they're definitely back on track!
According to Just Jared, the new teaser shows Jake telling Olivia (for what seems like the millionth time) that he's not going to sit around and wait for her forever, to which she responds that he shouldn't. A few seconds later, the two are shown getting hot and heavy right outside an elevator.
Earlier in the season, it was discovered that Jake had a long-lost wife, Elise (played by Mia Maestro) with whom he reconnected for a few episodes, until the Shonda Rhimes show did its thing and killed her off. Jake also seemed pretty peeved at Liv the last time we saw them, but seeing as they've been on an emotional rollercoaster for quite a while at this point, it's hardly a surprise that they've reconnected.
For now, in any case, it seems like Liv's long-running thing with Fitz is finally over. Fashion N Style reports that, on the new clip, Abby (Darby Stanchfield) directly asks her whether she still misses "him," and Olivia's downright curt in her answer: No. Still, right after that it seems she calls the White House, so who really knows what's happening inside Liv's head at this point?
Scandal's season 5 will return to television on Thursday, February 11.
