Some actors, nay, most actors, campaign heavily for their Oscars. Then there's Leonardo DiCaprio. Instead of campaigning to win for his role in The Revenant, the actor was seen Thursday meeting and exchanging gifts with Pope Francis. The two met to reportedly discuss an issue they both are extremely passionate about: the environment.

The actor reportedly saw the Pope as part of an environmental advocacy tour he appears to be taking. He also recently stopped by the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he donated $15 million to projects bettering the environment. DiCaprio was also honored at the event for his work.

Although details are relatively scant, a video shows DiCaprio kissing the Pope's ring and giving the Pope a book of Hieronymus Bosch's works. DiCaprio tells the Pope that one of the works, "The Garden of Earthly Delights," hung over his crib when he was a baby.

The actor explains to Pope Francis, "As a child I didn't quite understand what it all meant, but through my child's eyes it represented a planet, the utopia we had been given, the overpopulation, excesses, and the third panel we see a blackened sky that represents so much to me of what's going in in the environment."

Later in the video, Pope Francis in turn gives DiCaprio a book, his tome on the environment, Laudato Si'.

PEOPLE also reports that DiCaprio gave the Pope a check from his environmental philanthropy for His Holiness to use for works "close to [his] heart," according to a source.

The meeting reportedly took 15 minutes. The actor was accompanied by his father, George DiCaprio, and the chair of DiCaprio's foundation, Milutin Gatsby.

As for why DiCaprio chose to speak with the Pope specifically, a source for PEOPLE says, "Leo explained that he wanted to discuss a subject they both have very much at heart: protecting the environment and climate change."
