It may be difficult for fans to accept the news that Wolverine 3 will be the last time we will see Hugh Jackman as the adamantium-clawed mutant, but it is even more difficult to imagine another actor taking on the role. Still, the question remains: Will Wolverine get recast in future X-Men movies?
The answer is a resounding yes, but X-Men: Apocalypse producer Simon Kinberg says that it won't be as easy as most people think. Kinberg recently spoke to DigitalSpy, where he confirmed he wants to keep making movies with Wolverine. However, there can only be one true Wolverine for him.
"I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories, so either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chicken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward," Kinberg said before admitting that he doesn't want another actor to take on the role.
"Honestly, I can't imagine anybody else playing the part, and there's not too many characters I can say that for," he said.
Some fans may not be as hung up on Jackman's departure from the role, as they have already considered the possibility of casting a new actor as Wolverine. Most fan casting reports have included names like Bradley Cooper and Jon Bernthal as fan favorites for the role. Jackman himself has joined the celebrity fan casting fun and announced that he would like to see Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy play a new version of the Marvel antihero.
Jackman first played the regenerative mutant in 2000's X-Men and has portrayed Wolverine in the subsequent sequels like X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past. He will reprise the role in the yet-untitled Wolverine solo film, which is scheduled for release in 2017.
