The FX smash hit, The People v. O.J. Simpson, may feature real clips and events, but it's not 100 percent accurate, and the Kardashians want everyone to know it. Following the airing of episode 2 "The Run of His Life," the Kardashians, particularly Kim Kardashian West, responded to one scene in particular that "never happened."
In the episode, Robert Kardashian (father to Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Robert and played here by Friends star David Schwimmer), appears on television to read O.J. Simpson's (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.) suicide note. Despite Robert's ironic apparent unease with the media attention, the show cuts to a scene of his kids cheering for their father because he's on television. At one point, when reporters have no idea what a Kardashian is and asks him to clarify the spelling of his last name, the kids break out in a chant of "Kar-dash-ian! Kar-dash-ian!"
The scene apparently did not go over well with the family, as a source told E! News that the event "never happened." TMZ confirmed this as well, saying, "Kim was watching and thought the scene was over-the-top and 'ridiculous.' We're told the sisters absolutely remember watching their dad reading O.J.'s letter during the news conference, and they were certainly used to people, in general, screwing up their name - but the cheering while watching TV simply 'never happened.'"
E! is quick to note in their report, however, that "the Kardashians are generally happy with how the FX series is portraying their father."
Vanity Fair reports that show-runners Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski explained the decision, saying, "[The kids] really are only in five minutes of the 10 hour-long episodes. By showing a little tiny bit you can see how what happened in '94, '95 affected the future Kardashian empire."
The People v. O.J. Simpson airs Tuesdays on FX at 10 p.m. ET.
