The classic animated series Thunderbirds is getting a new and updated remake: Amazon Studios has officially ordered four 13-episode seasons of the reboot. While fans can expect new episodes to air later this year, the first major casting announcement for Thunderbirds Are Go has already been made. Gone Girl actress Rosamund Pike will voice Lady Penelope.
According to Coming Soon, the new Thunderbirds series U.S. broadcase rights were bought by Amazon. The series, originally a UK-New Zealand co-production from ITV Studios Global Entertainment, premiered last year in the UK and a second season had been ordered.
Both the first and second ITV seasons consist of 26 episodes, which would be the totality of the four 13-episode seasons Amazon has ordered for the U.S.
"We're thrilled to be collaborating with ITV Studios Global Entertainment on a world-renowned property that kids and families today will embrace," Tara Sorensen, current head of Head of Kids Programming at Amazon Studios, told the outlet. "Our customers will enjoy the same action and adventure found on the classic series infused with a contemporary aesthetic and visually stunning world."
The new show, set in the year 2060, will bring the focus back to Tracy Brothers Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon and Alan, as they form a secret organization dedicated to saving human lives in their technologically advanced machines, the Thunderbirds. Each of the brothers pilots one of them in a team led by Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward, voiced by Pike.
As AV Club reports, the rest of the cast includes Thomas Brodie-Sangster (the voice of Ferb in Phineas & Ferb and a Game of Thrones alum) and voice acting legend David Graham, who voiced both Brains as well as Gordon Tracy in the original 1960s series.
The first season of Thunderbirds Are Go will be available in the U.S. for Amazon Prime members later this year.
