Comedian superstar Bill Murray was trying to have a quiet time at a bar, taking a break from being part of the celebrity crowd at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament. However, the Ghostbusters actor's night was interrupted when fans started taking photographs of him out of the blue ... which angered Murray to the point of dropping fans' cellphones from the rooftop.
According to TMZ, Murray wasn't drinking at the time of the incident at the Vesuvio bar in Carmel, California, but the owner of the venue, Scott Pepe, told the media that the actor had just gotten really annoyed when fellow patrons were invasively starstruck.
Last Friday, a few fans got as close as 10 feet away from the Academy Award nominee, with flashes blinding him from a short distance. Deeply annoyed, Murray got up, grabbed their cellphones and threw them off the rooftop, from a second story.
Patrons at the Vesuvio bar called the police, but at the time the officers arrived at the scene, Murray had already taken off.
It seems like the incident happened during a party hosted by Justin Timberlake, who's also part of the current gold tournament. Three people reported that Murray had thrown taken their phones and then thrown them off the building's rooftop, and it turns out two out of these were lost, while the third cellphone landed on a cushion.
"When we got there we had three people who were reporting that the subject, identified as Mr. Murray, had taken their cell phones and thrown them," Paul Tomasi, a Carmel police commander, told Sky News. "This morning our officers contacted representatives of Mr. Murray. He acknowledged that he was there and said he is willing to replace the property that was damaged."
It seems the whole thing was resolved without a lot of problems, but fans should know not to pester Murray in the future!
