As more major film stars go into television movie territory these days, Amy Adams has now joined the trend with a new adaptation of Gillian Flynn's work. Although still orphan of a network, the Sharp Objects adaptation has just found its lead in the multiple Oscar nominee, who will be taking the role of Camille Preaker in the Gone Girl author's third adaptation.

According to Variety, the Man of Steel actress is now the first official member of the Sharp Objects cast, after production for the TV project had been on hold for the past few years.

This will be the third time one of Flynn's novels is adapted, and the first one to become a TV series; 2014's Gone Girl (starring Adams' Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice co-star Ben Affleck) was a major hit in 2014, and last year Charlize Theron starred in Flynn Dark Places.

As Deadline reports, Adams will be taking the role of Camille, a reporter who was recently at a psychiatric hospital and now gets sent away to her hometown to cover two brutal murders. Once there, Camille reconnects with her family, particularly her mother and half-sister.

Since becoming a film megastar with projects like Enchanted and American Hustle, Adams hasn't starred in any television roles, but she had small roles in numerous shows before making it on the big screen. Before her breakout role in Junebug, Adams was on Smallville, Charmed and even That 70's Show.

While so far there are no other actors attached for the project, it's a bit different with the crew: Jean-Marc Vallée (who helmed Dallas Buyers Club and Wild) will be directing the project, from a script co-written by Flynn and Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Marti Noxon, the latter of whom will also serve as showrunner and executive producer.

The new series still hasn't picked up by any network, though its chances look good after bagging a star as big as Adams.

Director Vallée is currently working on another big-profile television project, teaming up with his Wild star Reese Witherspoon again along with Oscar winner Nicole Kidman for HBO's Big Little Lies.
