Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter has had quite the moved season this year after the Marvel Cinematic Universe prequel of sorts Agent Carter moved from New York City to Hollywood to solve some Cold War-era crimes. In the latest spoilers for this week's second episode, S02E09, Peggy teams up with quite the different crowd -- ABC's Dancing with the Stars!
The beginning of the second-to-last episode of the season, "A Little Song and Dance," has all the razzle-dazzle of old Hollywood. In a beautiful dream scene choreographed by DwtS' Louis Van Amstel (who also appears along with other members of the cast), Peggy faces the emotional decision that has been haunting her throughout the season: will it be Dr. Jason Wilkes (Reggie Austin) or Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj)?
Helping her decide, Lyndsy Fonseca makes her only appearance in the season as Peggy's friend from New York, aspiring actress Angie Martinelli.
In any case, once Peggy wakes up, the reality is altogether different. She has been knocked out by henchmen and she's tied up on the back of a van next to Jarvis (James D'Arcy), who almost just got them killed after shooting Whitney Frost (Wynn Everett).
Of course, Peggy gets the two of them out, but there's also a very emotional scene between the two partners in crime, where Jarvis unfairly says everyone around Peggy dies and she says he's lucky it doesn't happen to him. Ashamed of his words, Jarvis makes the big revelation: his wife, Ana (Lotte Verbeek), can't have children after being shot.
Whitney, who took Dr. Wilkes after he was imbued in Zero Matter, takes him to an impromptu lab to experiment on him, trying to force him into showing his new powers. Jason, who's now returned to his usual self after threatening Peggy in the last episode, feels sick and like he can't contain the power of Zero Matter for much longer.
On the desert, Sousa and Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) create a plan to come back to the SSR, tricking their way back and ultimately making a deal with Vernon Masters (Kurtwood Smith): they'll fix the gamma ray cannon, but Whitney Frost has to go down in the process. Obviously, Vernon accepts gracefully, and Peggy reaches the SSR offices and agrees to work with him, though endlessly suspicious -- though it's Thompson who ultimately flips it all around.
Thompson ultimately tricks Whitney into thinking he's aligned with her, when in fact he's turned the gamma ray cannon into a bomb, intending to blow up Wilkes, Whitney and Vernon in the facilities. However, just as he's about to do it, Wilkes, who refused to be rescued by Peggy, goes to where Whitney's about to kill Vernon, and his full Zero Matter condition is shown to the world ... but we won't find out more until the season finale.
Agent Carter will be back next Tuesday with the episode "Hollywood Ending."
