After the success of Marvel Cinematic Universe original Netflix shows Daredevil and A.K.A. Jessica Jones, the next Iron Fist. And the latest hot casting new is that Finn Jones, best known for playing Ser Loras in HBO's Game of Thrones, will be leading the cast as Danny Rand.
Marvel made the announcement about the 27-year-old actor through Entertainment Weekly. A few days earlier, however, The Hashtag Show had announced Marvel was circling Jones for the character.
While Jones' character Ser Loras Tyrell is currently in prison in Game of Thrones, there's a good chance he'll come back for this spring's season 6. He also happens to be the first casting announcement in Iron Fist, and there's still no word on when production will begin.
He'll be playing Daniel Rand, a New York City man who was adopted by the ruler of fictional Asian city K'un-L'un, where he learns the secrets of martial arts as well as the mystical powers associated with connecting with his chi -- which includes summoning the powers of the Iron Fist.
Later Danny returns to his native NYC to fight crime, eventually joining The Defenders alongside the likes of Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones.
Although the character is originally white in the comics, seeing as it's based on the 1970s wave of martial arts movies led by Bruce Lee, there was a demand for the actor to play him to be Asian-American. However, Netflix and Marvel did not decide to go that route, prompting a first wave of criticism; Hit Fix has called the original character a "poster child for appropriation."
