It has been two weeks since Richonne was born in the final scenes of the tenth episode of The Walking Dead Season 6, yet fans still can't stop talking about the newest it couple on TV. But will Rick and Michonne be able to maintain a romantic relationship in the middle of a zombie apocalypse? Andrew Lincoln thinks that it might finally be for keeps for his TWD character!
Lincoln recently spoke to Yahoo! about his character's romance with Danai Gurira's Michonne, where he claimed that the hookup is something that fans have been looking for.
"It is something that I think a lot of people have been wanting," Lincoln said, explaining that it was natural for Rick and Michonne to end up with each other in The Walking Dead.
"These are two... what we wanted [to show with] that scene was these two old warrior friends who love each other, and for all intents and purposes, have been a family for quite a long time. They've saved each other's lives on many occasions," he said, adding that it was finally the right time for Michonne and Rick.
"This was just a moment of electricity where they catch each other, and they look at each other, and they say, of course, of course it should be this, and it should be grown up and natural and free and equal," Lincoln said.
But is there a possibility that things won't last for Richonne? After all, the women that Rick has been with have been killed off in the show. Nevertheless, Lincoln is hopeful that the romance will last, especially because both characters really need it.
"I think you're going to find an increase in story and pace and jeopardy interfering with a lot of the burgeoning romance, unfortunately, but you never know. You never know," he said. "We live in hope for more scenes, more lovey scenes. There's always space for love in the apocalypse."
