There have been several memorable villains in the history of Star Wars, from the calm but cruel Darth Vader to the temperamental Kylo Ren. However, the most under-utilized (and possibly the only redeeming factor of the prequels) Sith is still Darth Maul, who only appeared for a mere 15 minutes in The Phantom Menace. Now Darth Sidius' most brilliant student finally takes center stage in a stunning fan-made short film, where he easily takes on a group of Jedi!

Darth Maul: Apprentice - A Star Wars Fan-Film follows the Episode I villain as he defends his territory from invaders, who just happen to be a group of Jedi. He easily gets rid of the first three before taking on the Obi-Wan Kenobi look-alike, who tells him "Your fighting style is a long-forgotten art, but I understand it now."

The fan film was released by the Youtube channel T7pro and was directed, produced and edited by Shawn Bu. The action sequences were choreographed by Vi-Dan Tran while the costumes were provided by DefCon Unlimited.

The creators were undoubtedly huge fans of Darth Maul, who was played by Ray Park in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

"We always felt that Darth Maul should have had more screen time. So we wanted to create a film just for him with the best lightsaber fights we could do!" the description for the fan film read.

Darth Maul: Apprentice is currently receiving praise for the stunning cinematography and brilliant choreography. The film does not feature a lot of dialogue and almost instantly gets on with the lightsaber fight that does not only honor the Sith but also helps the audience connect with the minor characters.

Created by George Lucas, Darth Maul is a Dathomirian Zabrak who becomes Darth Sidius' apprentice. Although the character was sliced in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) after Maul killed Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), the villain has been resurrected in Star Wars: The Clone Wars with the help of robotic legs.
