The Disney Channel sequel series to Rapunzel adaptation Tangled has gotten two new big cast members: Golden Globe nominee Ashley Judd and Emmy winner Jeffrey Tambor!
Tangled: Before Ever After will serve as a continuation of the 2010 Disney Animations Studios princess movie, bringing back its two leads, Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, and an all-star cast!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tambor will be reprising his voice role from the original film, playing the big-nosed thug one more time in the sequel. Judd, on her part, will be voicing Rapunzel's mother, Queen Arianna, in the upcoming series.
The two are part of a star-filled cast, Variety reports. Among the big names in the Disney Channel animated series are Jonathan Banks (Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) in the role of Quirin; Roastmaster General Jeff Ross as Hook Foot; Richard Kind (who recently broke your heart by voicing Ping Pong on Inside Out) as Uncle Monty; Will & Grace alum Sean Hayes as Pete the Guard; and Ally McBeal actor Peter MacNicol as Nigel the Adviser.
Besides the myriad of amazing voice talents, the series, a musical like its film predecessor, will have lyrics by the original music-making team of Tony winner Glenn Slater and Alan Menken, the guy who's won eight Oscars for his movie music for Disney, for soundtracks including modern classics like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Hercules.
Tangled: Before Ever After is set to premiere in 2017 on multiple Disney Channels around the world, on many different languages. The series will take place in the space between the 2010 film and the 2012 short film Tangled Ever After, where Rapunzel and Eugene get married.
Disney also recently revealed a new image of the upcoming series, and while it's unclear if this will be the type of animation used in it, it's quite different from the style of the 2010 film and its short sequel -- could there big changes ahead for Rapunzel's look?
