Netflix will release the full second season of Daredevil this Friday, with the following Marvel Cinematic Universe series, Luke Cage, already scheduled for a September release. It's now time for the studio to go forward with its follow-up project, Iron Fist. Following reports regarding Game of Thrones' Ser Loras Tyrell Finn Jones being cast in the role, Marvel studios has just confirmed the news!
The Disney-owned studio confirmed the news this Thursday through a press release on their website, welcoming Jones as the next superhero in the MCU, just before Matt Murdock is set to return to Hell's Kitchen.
"Danny Rand is a very complicated character," said showrunner Scott Buck, whose past works include Dexter and Six Feet Under, via Slash Film. "He's a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who's still trying to figure out what exactly that all means. Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny."
Casting Jones on the role of Danny Rand marks the last bit of casting for Marvel's Defenders project, which will be released after all four of its main superheroes are introduced to the MCU.
So far, three out of these four have appeared on the MCU version of Hell's Kitchen: Matt Murdock/Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter), who was introduced as a love interest/fellow superhero in last year's Jessica Jones and will get its own show later this year. Each is getting its own series ahead of the Defenders mini-series, which could be delayed due to the success of each individual hero.
So far, both Daredevil and Jessica Jones have had second-season orders, and as the second outing of the Man with No Fear is hours away from release, there's a chance Netflix could order a third season, which could further delay the Defenders.
