FX's The Americans Season 4 SPOILERS: Twitter Reacts Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys Premiere!

The Season 4 premiere of The Americans aired on FX. Twitter had lots to say about the shocking twist between undercover spies Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell) and Philip Jennings (Matthew Rhys).

In our recent recap, after revealing her parent's secret, Pastor Tim wants Paige (Holly Taylor) to go more information out of her parents. As Nina (Annet Mahendru) revealed she had a husband, Elizabeth and Philip discovered their new mission involves a bioweapon, a disease named Glanders. Unfortunately, Stan (Noah Emmerich) found out Philip was secretly meeting with his ex wife behind his back. The two were almost infected by the disease that Philip was carrying in his pocket.

In an interview with Variety, co-showrunner Joel Fields reveals what that scuffle means, "From Stan's point of view, he's a guy who doesn't have a lot of friends in his life, and Philip is one of his only friends, maybe his only friend at this point. I think finding out that he was sharing confidences with his ex-wife is a painful thing. For Philip, (he) probably feels bad and awkward about it. At the same time it's complicated by the fact that Stan's a really good investigator. He never targets that switch off. When he confronts Philip, even though Philip didn't have an affair with Sandra, (Stan) does sense that he's hiding something."
