The second season of Daredevil will finally introduce a different Karen Page, who has finally found her courage and a possible romance with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox)! Deborah Ann Woll has just confirmed that Karen's transformation has a lot to do with her eagerness to understand Jon Bernthal's The Punisher and that her relationship with Matt is very different from his connection with Elektra Natchios!
Woll spoke to Comic Book Resources, where she revealed how she prepared for the unusual dynamic between Karen and Frank Castle.
"One of the first things I did when I knew that was the direction they were going was, I reread Silence of the Lambs, because for me, that felt very similar to this," Woll said before explaining that Karen looks at Frank in the same way that Clarice Starling sees Hannibal Lecter.
"In a way, he is a mentor for her, even though he may do things that she doesn't agree with, or he does them in a way that she finds to be too violent, or unjust, or illegal. He still represents someone who is trying to make a difference, who is doing it his own way," she said. "So the relationship can be one of admiration, and distaste. It's a very interesting, complex relationship."
Woll also discussed the blossoming relationship between Matt and Karen, which is taking a more romantic turn as seen in the Daredevil trailer. However, it could get complicated with Elodie Yung's Elektra coming into the picture.
"Obviously, this is Matt Murdock's story, so we're looking at how do these two different women bring out different aspects of who he is," she said, adding that Cox had a great explanation how things fall into place for Matt, Karen and Elektra.
"I think Charlie said it this way, and this is what we discussed in our rehearsals, is that, in a way, he can be completely Matt Murdock with Karen. Totally vulnerable, totally himself, who he is -- and that's scary," Woll said before stating how different it is when Matt is with his ex-girlfriend.
"With Elektra, he can be totally Daredevil. All of the darkness, all of the desire to break the law and disregard other people's feelings and needs. That kind of temptation side," she concluded.
Daredevil Season 2 airs on Netflix on March 18.
